bookmarks in books

Maybe I should stop using them. maybe if I did, I'd learn to remember the book better, where I was, to be forced to go over it and revisit parts until I find where I'm at - maybe this is better for my memory? I want a better memory, to be able to recite good wholesome poems when quietly walking by myself, with no distracting tech.
